Calc Testing Flashcards
Straight Calc, Simple Calc
This is a calculation that is simple math (1+2=3)
Conditional Calc
These are the calculations where the government instructions start IF x, THEN y. There can be single conditions or multiple conditions.
Tables
Calculations that are based on tables. Eg. tax tables, etc.
Limits
This is a Conditional Calc where one type of calculation happens up to a certain dollar amount, and then the calculation changes after that amount.
Ranges
Similar to Tables and Limits, but they might not be presented in a table format.
Boundary Testing
You will hear this in conjunction with Tables, Limits, and Ranges. This is testing where you test just below and at the Limit OR at and just above the Limit.
Pulls/Flows From
The number actually flows from (pulled) one or more other forms. There is usually no change in the number from the supporting form to the form you are testing. We often refer to these as single pulls or multiple pulls.
Push/Flow To
This number flows (pushes) to another form.
Enterable Field
User can enter an amount. There are also enterable/calc fields that also have pulls. For testing purposes you will determine if a field should be enterable and, if so, whether or not one or more error messages should exist on it.
Default Assigned
The value flows from another form or worksheet but the user can enter a new value without an override. If the user deletes the value in the field, the original value will calculate.
Drop Assigned
The value flows from another form or worksheet but the user can enter a new value without having to override. If the user deletes the new value, the original amount does not calculate. User would need to remove the form from the state, go to the federal then return to the state to re-transfer the original amount.
Total Calc’d Form
This is a form on which the user can not enter any information. They are fully calculated based on other information on the return.
Rounding Standard
As a general rule, division is carried out to one extra decimal place and then rounded up or rounded down. Remember that differences exist in the formsets between PER and PRO. Since we build our files in PER, you will need to re-verify your flows are correct in PRO. We will cover this testing in the PRO Specific Testing chapter of the training manual.
