CAF VEH TECH DP1 Flashcards
What are the 2 types of frictions?
Kinetic and static
What 4 factors govern the generation of friction?
Pressure, Coefficient of friction, Frictional contact
surface, Heat dissipation
How is the coefficient of friction determined?
Dividing the force required to pull on object across a surface by the weight of the object
Force is expressed in_______and area is expressed in_____?
Surface, and Contact
Output force increases with ______ _______?
Surface area
What are the 2 types of dual braking systems?
Diagonally split system and front/rear split
What are the 4 qualities a good brake fluid should posses?
Flow freely at high/low temps, serves as lubricant, corrosion and rust resistance, resist evaporation
What is one characteristic of brake fluid that could lower its boiling point?
a lubricant to its parts
During normal operation what moves the secondary piston of the master cylinder?
The primary pushes the secondary piston spring which in turn pushes the secondary piston.
why can’t you repair pitting in an aluminum master cylinder?
Because it is heat treated
What is the most common fitting used on a brake system ?
Double or inverted flare style
On a brake hose what is a lay indicator used for?
makes sure line isn’t spiraled after fittings are tightened
what is a height sensing proportioning valve used for?
provides two different brake balance modes, to rear brakes based on load of vehicle
what is a combination valve?
a single unit that combines a metering valve, proportioning valve, and a pressure differential valve
Two types of brake power systems?
Vacuum assist and Hydraulic assist
