- there were 52 after-shocks
- strike slip fault between Caribbean and North American tectonic plates
- 222,000 people were killed
- 1.7 million people were left homeless
- 60% of hospitals were destroyed
- total cost $8 billion
- Photo Port-au-Prince, the capital city was affected badly

Emergency aid
A
- Short-term aid to time from around the world for example 61 people from the UK Fire service search and rescue team
- Emergency field hospitals were set up on the shore for example Argentin apples emergency hospital
- The USNS comfort (Maybe floating hospital ship) was moored close the coast and took on-board up to 500 winded people at one time
- Water sanitation equipment and body bags were used up to try and stop the spread of disease
- 20,000 US food aid personal gave out food to 3,500,000 people
