How do you change the QAB to the top or bottom of the screen?
Setup QAB>Misc>Bottom
How do you turn on white boxes around Super weight aircraft?
Setup QAB>Tag HL
How do you adjust Brightness of items on the Csit?
Setup QAB>Setup>Brightness
How do you adjust Size of PPS and what are the rules for size of PPS?
Setup QAB>Setup>Size
if >600nm range use PPS size 6
Describe PRE
Not for East high
Describe SPR
There was a problem with the SSR code at some point and CAATS isn’t sure that the target display this correctly correlated with the flight plan.
Describe POS
this means that CAATS cannot properly process the flight plan because where the aircraft is on the flight plan does not correlate with where CAATS thinks it is. this is usually due to an incorrect boundary time or speed entry so that CAATS is processing the aircraft position inaccurately.
Describe LAT
the l a t warning is short for lateral and it occurs when an aircraft is 50 nautical miles or more from its flightplan profile. Will this sounds like something that should not happen don’t be alarmed it almost always happens because the flight plan is not updated on purpose. Weather deviations are the most common reason.
Describe H/O Warn
flashes the CJS on your data tag when aircraft are close to Sector boundaries to remind you.
Describe H/O persist
displays data tag after hand off accepted for 3 minutes so you can remember to transfer Communications.
Describe Hold Tags
displays data tag after handoff accepted until you click on it to remind you to transfer Communications
FPL
this is the name for a filed flight plan that has not been activated by a boundary estimate or correlated by radar position report. On FPL is the information received from external sectors by our ATOS and is not current in its flight data and therefore cannot be used for control purposes.
CPL
the name for an FPL that has been activated by a boundary estimate, a position report, or radar position report. The CPL is what we use for controlling aircraft. All the flight plan information should be up-to-date and any discrepancies in a CPL will lead to the ambiguity conditions discussed previously.

How do you display the Orange Box representing the CAATS Extrapolated position on a Correlated Target?
Display the route and you will see the orange box along the route near the RPS.
How do you display the Orange Box representing the CAATS Extrapolated position on a Correlated Target?
Display the route and you will see the orange box along the route near the RPS.
How do you display Extended Tags?
- EXT button on the Toggle QAB
- F10
What does the HIGH/ALL button do and where is it located?
High shows high intensity precipitation as dark blue X’s. All shows high and low intensity, low is shown as light blue slashes.
How do you operate the cloud tops features?
- TOPS button on the Toggle QAB allows you to select the height of the clouds displayed as light blue lines
- B3 on display, select ‘show tops’ from pop up menu, drag around with B2. B1 to erase.
How long are lightning strike symbols displayed, and how do you dismiss the indicator?
3 minutes, and you cannot dismiss a lightning indicator
What items are saved in a Preset?
- All fields from Setup QAB
- Display center and range
- Selected overlays
- Altitude Filter
- Most recent Halo, PTL, and Rings values
What information is not filtered by the Altitude Filter?
- Targets under your CJS
- Targets for which you will be the first CJS
- Targets without Mode C Transponders/invalid Mode C

Describe use of the Lat Long Readout function:
B3 on display and select Lat Long Readout in popup menu. B2 click the displayed readout to move it around.
B1 to erase individually or select Clear All
What is Free Text often used for and how do you operate it?
Background pop up menu, then select free text to open a dialogue pane where you can have 20 character long entries.
Often used for Turbulence, equip outages, weather info, coordination.
What information is displayed by using ‘winds’ function from Background pop up menu?
Lat Long and Time Height Direction Speed Temperature
What is an FDE?
Flight Data Entry
either an FPL or CPL, it is a short hand version of a flight plan found in lists.
what are 3 functions you can perform using FDE’s?
a) B1 click ACID to toggle GRD
b) B3 click ACID for target popup menu
c) B3 click altitude for altitude slider
what are the four conditions of an FDE and the associated colors?
Steady Green- new entry
Blinking Yellow- aircraft is in handoff mode
Blinking Bright Yellow- conflict alert
Blinking Red- special condition
What is shown for an FDE in an Arrival list?
