What are the 3 primary colors?
Red, Blue and Yellow
What are the 3 secondary colors?
Purple, Orange and Green
What are Tertiary Colors?
A primary color and secondary color mixed together. Colors right next to each other on the color wheel.
What are warm colors?
Red, Orange and Yellow
What are cool colors?
Green, Blue and Purple
What is a tint?
When we add white to colors to gradually lighten them.
What is a shade?
When we add black to colors to gradually darken them.
What are complimentary colours? Name them.
Colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Eg. Blue and Orange, Yellow and Purple, Red and Green.
What are monochromatic colors?
Made up of one color and its shades and tints.
What is a neutral color?
Colors that don’t appear on the color wheel and are often defined as hues that appear to have no color.
What colors are mixed to get secondary colors?
Purple = Red + Blue
Green = Yellow + Blue
Orange= Yellow + Red
What happens when we mix all the colors together?
You create something that absorbs light, and to the human eye, the lack of light is seen as Black.
What is a hue?
A hue is a color or shade of color.
What is a dusty color?
When we add brown to a colour. Eg. Blue + Brown = Grey Blue

What are the 4 physical properties of line with examples?
Measurement - Long, short, thick and thin.
Direction - Horizontal, diagonal, curved.
Location - Edge, surface, outline, linking.
Character - Mechanical, controlled, soft, hard.
What is shape?
A two-dimensional area (Flat) with a recognizable boundary.
What is form?
A three-dimensional shape.
What does form contain?
Height, width, and depth. It also refers to the illusion of volume in two-dimensional work.
What is tone?
Tone refers to the degree of light and dark in each artwork.
What is Texture?
Refers to the surface quality or feel of an object.
Name 2 types of texture?
Visual and tactile.
Name 2 types of perspective?
Linear and Aerial.
What is linear perspective?
Based on the observation that parallel lines appear to meet the horizon at one of more vanishing points. Objects become smaller at they move further away.
What is aerial perspective?
Atmospheric perspective
When the atmosphere softens shapes and colors in the distance.
What are the principles of art/design?
The rules, tools, and/or guidelines that artists use to organize the elements of art in an artwork.

What is composition?
The combination of art elements to make a pleasing whole
What is balance?
The arrangement of the elements to create stability in an artwork.
Name the 3 types of balance
Symmetrical - similar, almost mirrored
Asymmetrical - similar, not mirrored
Radial - everything arranged around a centre.
What is rhythm/movement?
Ways of combining art elements to produce a sense of flow or movement in artwork.
What is emphasis?
Developing points of interest to pull viewer’s eyes to important parts in the work.
What is Unity/Harmony?
The wholeness which results from the successful combination of the elements of an artwork.
What is variety?
The use of different art elements.
What is proportion?
The size relationship of parts to a whole and to another.
What is contrast?
Refers to the visual differences in an artwork.
What is pattern?
The repetition of motifs.
