A

What is 2636.5?

A

A licensed supervising physical therapist must be on-site at ALL times and must have a documented receipt of the letter authorizing the PTALA to practice as well as a record of the expiration date of that status.
Status remains in effect after applicant takes NPTE and passes and until license has been granted.
Once the license has been issued, they can identify as a PTA.
If the exam is failed, licensure is denied or if the applicant doesn’t take the exam during first possible test cycle, graduate cannot practice as a PTALA.

What is the alternative route to PTA licensure?

A

2639.1 and 1398.47. If the board finds someone to have proper training and adequate experience equivalent to that received at a physical therapist assistant school and they meet the requirements for licensure (2635 seen above) they may apply for licensure as a physical therapist assistant.

How many times can an applicant take the NPTE per application per 12 month time period?

A

3 times. If the applicant has not passed the NPTE within one year from the date of original notice, a new application and application fee are required in addition to a re-examination fee. (1398.21.1)
If the required initial license fee following a pass of the NPTE has not been paid within five years, then the application will be determined as abandoned. (1398.23)
