Physical Therapy Definition?
- The practice of Physical Therapy includes promoting and maintenance of physical fitness through use of physical therapy interventions in order to enhance bodily movement as related to the health and wellness of individuals.

- A. What is a PTLA?
A graduate can work as a PTLA under DIRECT and IMMEDIATE supervision of a licensed PT for 120 days pending results of first licensing exam for which they are eligible (1398.44, 1399.1, 2636.5, 2639)
What is 1399.1?
A licensed supervising PT must be on-site at all times and must have a documented receipt of the letter authorizing the PTLA to practice as well as record of the expiration date of that status (FOR A PTLA).
Under what conditions does an applicant lose PTLA status?
If the applicant fails NPTE, the license is denied, or if the applicant doesn’t take the NPTE during the first possible test cycle, then the graduate can no longer practice as a PTLA.
What is 2630.4?
A PTLA cannot supervise a PT aide or a PTA providing patient related tasks.
What is 1399.12?
PTALA will be granted following graduation from an approved education program for 120 days. (2639).
What is 2636.5?

Once the license has been issued, they can identify as a PTA.

What is the alternative route to PTA licensure?
2639.1 and 1398.47. If the board finds someone to have proper training and adequate experience equivalent to that received at a physical therapist assistant school and they meet the requirements for licensure (2635 seen above) they may apply for licensure as a physical therapist assistant.

How many times can an applicant take the NPTE per application per 12 month time period?
3 times. If the applicant has not passed the NPTE within one year from the date of original notice, a new application and application fee are required in addition to a re-examination fee. (1398.21.1)
If the required initial license fee following a pass of the NPTE has not been paid within five years, then the application will be determined as abandoned. (1398.23)
