C5.1.7 - Gas calculations Flashcards
1
Q
What is molar volume?
A
The volume occupied by one mole of a gas (24dm3 at room temperature and pressure)
2
Q
What is the equation relating the amount and volume of a substance in the gas state?
A
Volume in dm3 = amount in mol x 24 dm3/mol
3
Q
How do you measure the volume of a gas using an upside-down measuring cylinder?
A
- Fill the measuring cylinder with water and, while keeping its mouth underwater, turn it upside down
- Clamp the measuring cylinder securely
- Mix the reactants in a concise flask and attach a delivery tube
- Measure the volume of gas produced in the reaction by recording the end reading on the measuring cylinder
