C4 Windshear Flashcards
1
Q
What is windshear?
A
A sustained change in wind velocity along the aircraft flight path, which occurs significantly faster than the aircraft can accelerate or decelerate
2
Q
What are typical conditions conducive to windshear?
A
- frontal/squall/thunderstorm activity
- low level inversions
- local terrain or buildings considered in relation to wind speed and direction
3
Q
Which takes precedence, onboard windshear alerts or TCAS annunciations?
A
Windshear alerts
4
Q
What should a windshear report contain?
How long should this be broadcast?
A
- windshear warning
- height or height band
- time
- effect (e.g. speed gain/loss, vertical speed, drift)
The report should be broadcast to inbound/outbound aircraft until confirmation is received the condition no longer exists
