Q

Describe the steps involved in gas chromatography.

A
  1. Inject sample mixture into gas chromatography instrument.
  2. Heat mixture into a gas.
  3. Helium gas (mobile phase) is added to the gas mixture.
  4. The gas mixture and helium flow through a tube with a polymer column (stationary phase) inside of it.
  5. Different substances in the mixture move through the column at different speeds. A computer registers this and produces a gas chromatogram.
