C3.3.4 - Blood alcohol (gas chromatography) Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the steps involved in gas chromatography.
A
- Inject sample mixture into gas chromatography instrument.
- Heat mixture into a gas.
- Helium gas (mobile phase) is added to the gas mixture.
- The gas mixture and helium flow through a tube with a polymer column (stationary phase) inside of it.
- Different substances in the mixture move through the column at different speeds. A computer registers this and produces a gas chromatogram.
2
Q
