= too proud of yourself and your actions/abilities

= a feeling of unhappiness and disappointment
e. g. To her DISSAPOINTMENT, her exam was a whole month earlier.

ironically
=in a way that suggests you mean the opposite of what you are saying, or are not serious
e.g. She smiled WEIRDLY.
foul (sports)
= an act that is against the rules of a sport
e.g. He was sent off for a MISTAKE on the French captain.
deterrent
=something that prevents people from doing something
e.g. Tougher prison sentences may act/serve as a PREVENTION to other would-be offenders.
yearn
= to wish very strongly, especially for something that you cannot have or something that is very difficult to have
e.g. Sometimes I just WANT to be alone.
toss
=to throw something carelessly
e.g. He glanced at the letter and then THREW it into the bin.
toss and turn
=to move about from side to side or turn a lot in bed, especially because you cannot sleep
e.g. I was MOVING all night.
tender (human characteristic)
=gentle, loving, or kind
e.g. a LOVING look/smile
tender (food)
=(of meat or vegetables) easy to cut or chew
e.g. My steak was beautifully CHEWABLE.
tender (age)
=young
e.g. He was sent off to boarding school at the YOUNG age of seven.
fend for yourself
= to take care of and provide for yourself without depending on anyone else
e.g. Now that the children are old enough TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES , we can go away on holiday by ourselves.
ordeal
= a very unpleasant and painful or difficult experience
e.g. The hostages’ NIGHTMARE came to an end when soldiers stormed the building.
muddle
= an untidy or confused state
e.g. The documents were in a MESS.
albeit
= although
e.g. The evening was very pleasant, THOUGH a little quiet.
hail
= grindina
hail (verb)
= to call someone in order to attract their attention
e.g. Shall we CALL a taxi?
contempt
= a strong feeling of disliking and having no respect for someone or something
e.g. At school she had complete DISLIKE for all her teachers.
You should treat those remarks with the DISRESPECT that they deserve.
She’s beneath RESPECT.
inclination
= a feeling that you want to do a particular thing, or the fact that you prefer or are more likely to do a particular thing
e.g. My own FEELING would be to look for another job.
squander
= to waste money or supplies, or to waste opportunities by not using them to your advantage
e.g. They’ll quite happily WASTE a whole year’s savings on two weeks in the sun.
plague
= to cause worry, pain, or difficulty to someone or something over a period of time
e.g. Financial problems have been WORRYING their new business partners.
contemplate
= to spend time considering a possible future action, or to consider one particular thing for a long time in a serious and quiet way
e.g. I’m THINKING ABOUT going abroad for a year.
