The office where tickets of admission are sold. could be online or it could be an actual physical place where they sell the tickets/ where you can buy the tickets.
Box office
Ex:
- I can buy the tickets from the box office on my way home.
Central area on a theatre stage (where most actors prefer to be, right where everyone can see them
Centre stage
Ex:
The girl stood centre stage, with a single spotlight on her, singing her heart out
A room in which the actors change their clothes. There can be one long room that all the actors share or each actor can have their separate rooms to get changed
Dressing room
Ex:
She went into the dressing room to change clothes for the scene where she would marry the Prince.
Backstage room where performers rest or have visitors. In some theatres dressing rooms/ access the same area due to limited space
Green room
Ex: During the break the actors had their lunch in Green room
Lights that illuminates the audience’s part of a theatre.
Houselights
Ex:
The show ended and the house lights came up.
When you arrive the house lights will be on so you can see where your seat is
Lowered area in front of a stage where an orchestra sits, which is the reason why you usually can’t see the orchestra during an opera.
Orchestra pit
Ex:
The conductor is typically positioned at the front of the orchestral pit facing the stage
A lamp that produces a strong beam of light used to focus attention on a stage performer/ a focused light focused on a stage performer
Spotlight
Ex:
The spotlight was on the lead.
Actors love to be in the spotlight and the spotlight follows them around the stage
an area to the side of the stage out of sight of the audience.
wing
Ex: Romeo and Juliet were waiting in the wing for their final scene.
an actor may be waiting in the wing until it’s time for them to act in their scene.
The actors in a play/all the actors that are in a play.
Cast
Ex:
After their performance, the cast came out and bowed in front of the audience
Someone who designs or supplies costumes /person who decides how clothes are going to look etc.
Costume designer
Ex:
She wanted to be a costume designer for a period drama
Someone who supervises the actors and directs the action
Regissör
Director
Ex:
The director usually thinks they are the most important part in a theatre play
Ingmar Bergman is a renowned director in Sweden
A member of the cast who is a minor actor in crowd scenes
Extra
Ex:
He was an extra in Mamma Mia during the stag do/stag party
An actor who plays a principal role, a main role / the actor who is playing the main character
Lead
Ex:
She had dreamt of being the lead in a big musical
Someone who writes plays, they write the script for the plays
Playwright
Ex:
On the premiere we got the opportunity to see the playwright’s script play out in reality
Someone who finances and supervises the making of a show / a * controls the money for a play
Producer
Ex:
The producer laid out the budget for the play
Crew of workers who move scenery etc. and make sure the stage is working properly / people who help with the props on stage.

Ex:
The stage crew went in on the stage manager’s cue
