Engine Fire During Start Briefing

A
  1. Mags - Continue to Crank

If Engine Starts:

  1. Power - 1800 RPM (for a few mins)
  2. Engine - SHUTDOWN (inspect for any damage)

If Engine Fails To Start:

  1. Mags - START - Continue to Crank
  2. Throttle - Full OPEN
  3. Mixture - Idle Cut-OFF
  4. Fuel Selector - OFF position
  5. Fuel Pump Switch - OFF
  6. Mags Switch - OFF
  7. STBY Batt & Master Batt - OFF
  8. Engine - Ignition OFF
  9. Parking Break - OFF
  10. Extinguisher - OBTAIN
  11. Aircraft - EVACUATE
  12. Engine Fire - EXTINGUISH
  13. Fire Damage - INSPECT

Starting Engine Procedure

A
  • Throttle - 6mm (1/4 inch) open
  • Mixture - Cutoff
  • Stby Batt - 10s TEST then ARM
  • PFD - Check ON
  • Batt & Alt - ON
  • Avionics Bus 2 - ON, aft fan operating, OFF.
  • ATIS - As req’d
  • Start up clearance - As req’d
  • Beacon - ON

Perform next 3 steps of ENG is COLD
- Fuel pump - ON
- Mixture - 3-5s open then cutoff
- Fuel Pump - OFF

  • Prop Area - CLEAR
  • Mags - START (Do not crack >10s)
  • Mixture - Advance when engine starts
  • Throttle - 1000 RPM
  • Oil Pressure - Rising within 30s
  • Generator M & S Battery - Positive
  • Avionics - ON

Taxi Procedure

A

Brakes - Checked
Steering - Checked
Flight Instruments -
- Right turn (Numbers increasing), Skid Left
- Left turn (Numbers decreasing), Skid Right
ATC Taxi / Airways Clearance - Obtain if Req’d

Run Up Procedure

A
  • Parking Brake - SET
  • Engine Instruments - CHECK (Green Sector)
  • Throttle - 1800 RPM

CONFIRM ACFT IS NOT MOVING

  • Instruments - Green Sector
  • Vacuum - CHECK
  • Mags - L / R / Both - Drop of 150 RPM (+/- 50 RPM)
  • Annunciator Panel
  • Ammeter - CHECK
  • Carbon Monoxide Indicator - NO COLOUR CHANGE
  • Throttle - IDLE (check for rough running)
  • Throttle - 1000 RPM

Pre Take-off Safety Briefing

A
  • If I encounter an abnormal situation or an undesired aircraft state on the RWY I will, close the throttle and stop the aircraft in a straight line.
  • If the engine fails after take-off with RWY remaining, I will close the throttle, lower the nose and land on the remaining surface available.
  • If the engine fails below 300ft I will, close the throttle, lower the nose, select a field within 30 deg of the nose, confirm the glide speed of 68 KIAS and if time permits conduct an emergency engine shutdown - FMMM
  • If the engine fails above 300ft I will, lower the nose, select a field within 60 deg of the nose, confirm the glide speed and if time permits, conduct an engine restart - FMMM
  • I will only consider turning back if the aircraft is at or above 1000ft or established on downwind.
