C1.1 Flashcards
1
Q
Name three examples of particles in chemistry
A
Atoms, ions, and molecules
2
Q
Describe what a chemical and physical change is
A
- A physical change happens when a substance changes state or shape, or break into pieces. No new substances are made they are usually reversible.
- A chemical change is a change that produces one or more new substances. Many chemical changes are difficult or impossible to reverse.
3
Q
What are the forces between particles?
A
There are electrostatic force of attraction between particles of positive and negative charges. The forces become weaker the further apart the particle are. They are strongest in solids, and weakest in gases.
4
Q
Name three limitations of the particle model
A
It does not take into account
- the forces between particles
- the size of particles
- the space between particles
