A
minimum thermodynamic work (i.e., energy) needed to remove an electron from a solid to a point in the vacuum immediately outside the solid surface
When given work function, subtract it FROM the total energy because work function is energy used
KEmax = hf - Work function
Work function = hf(T)
f(T) = threshold frequency
