What is Fate?
The development of events outside a person’s control regarded predetermined supernatural force.
Who were the 3 fates?
Nona - determined what life would be like and who is born
Decuma - decided life expectancy
Morta - how and when death occurs for a person
What is a prophecy?
A prediction that either a good or bad thing will happen in the future.
What are the 2 things an oracle can be?
A priest who acts as a medium to prophecy or a response / message given by an oracle.
Who was the God of prophecy?
Apollo.
Who was the Sibyl?
A priestess of Apollo who lived in a cave near Cumae in the Bay of Naples.
What happened when the Sibyl approached Tarquinius Superbus?
She offered him 9 sacred books for a huge amount of money, however, when he refused to pay such a large amount of money, she chucked 3 books in the fire, left with six books she still offered him them, but for the same price, again she burnt another 3. With 3 books left, Tarquinius eventually, bought them - as they were holy containing the words of the God. (3 books for the price of 9).
What do you think about Tarquinius’ choices?
I think that Tarquinius was right to question the price for the 9 books, however after the first 3 were unexpectedly burnt, he should have purchased the remaining 6 as he saw the consequences.
