Speed bugs and fuel quantity

A

Set heading bug to RWY HDG
Set altitude bug to expected climb altitude
Set/check speed bugs (TIM/REF on PFD)
- Vy 80kts
- Vglide - set according to M&B calculations
- Vx 65kts
- Vr 59kts (normal takeoff - 55kts short field takeoff)
Set/check fuel totalizer (ENGINE - SYSTEM) - varify with values from preflight

Taxi - check

A
  1. Brakes - gently tap brakes to verify operation
  2. Flight instruments

Turning LEFT:
- Turn indicator - LEFT BANK
- Ball - RIGHT
- Compasses - DECREASING
- Attitudes - STEADY (< 5 deg. bank)

Turning RIGHT:
- Turn indicator - RIGHT BANK
- Ball - LEFT
- Compasses - INCREASING
- Attitudes - STEADY (< 5 deg. bank)

Autopilot and FD check

Before takeoff: 3

A
  1. Center HDG bug (press)
  2. Press HDG button - verify HDG/PITCH on AFCS status box + FD visible on PFD
  3. Press AP button - verify AP engaged on AFCS status box
  4. Twist HDG bug slightly left and then slightly right - watch yoke turning accordingly
  5. Disconnect AP with AP TRIM DISC button. Press on yoke - verify aural alert and yellow AP annunc. in AFCS status box
  6. Press FD button - verify FD OFF on PFD and AFCS status box
  7. Reset HDG bug to RWY HDG

Run-up

A

THROTTLE - 1800RPM
MAGNETOS - RIGHT, BOTH, LEFT, BOTH (drop < 175, max 50 diff)
PROP CONTROL - PULL SMOOTHLY UNTIL RPM DROP - THEN PUSH IN
- Repeat 3 times in case it is the first flight of the day
VERIFY - MP increase, RPM decrease - return to 1800, Oil Press decrease
Check for oil spill on cowling and windscreen
ENGINE INDICATORS - NORMAL VALUES, no annunc. illuminated
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - M BUS + E BUS ca. 28V, M BATT + S BATT 0/positive charge
Press ENGINE - SYSTEM on MFD, verify VAC in green range - then BACK
THROTTLE - IDLE (smooth running at ca. 650RPM - return to 1000RPM)
MIXTURE - LEAN until a slight increase in RPM is audible

  1. Set COM frequencies to be used and next freq. in standby
  2. set NAV frequencies and identify navaids
  3. set DME, CDI and BRG pointers as required
  4. Check that appropriate approach briefing is given (IFR) explain expected approach - often joining a pattern for landing, or straight in approach in VFR
