- Take PPE precautions and verify scene safety.

- Check patient responsiveness.

Conduct sternum rub/nail bed pinch

- Request additional EMS assistance.

- Opens airway properly
Jaw thrust for spinal injury
Head tilt chin lift for non-spinal

- Prepares rigid suction catheter.

- Turns on power to suction device or retrieves manual suction device.

- Insert rigid suction catheter WITHOUT applying suction.

- APPLY suction mouth and oropharynx on the way out for no more than 15 seconds!

- Opens airway manually

- Inserts oropharyngeal airway
Twist into mouth. Curve starts at roof of mouth, twist so curve grabs the tongue

- Ventilate the patient immediately using BVM UNATTACHED to O2.
Deliver first ventilation within 30 seconds!

- Re-checks pulse for no more than 10 seconds

- Attach BVM assembly to to O2 and administer at 15lpm

- Ventilate the patient adequately.
Check for proper chest rise and fall
Ventilate at 10-12 breaths per min or 1 ventilation every 5-6 seconds!
