What is Spinal Stenosis?
What is the classic/everyday clinical sign?
Name some causes
Spinal Stenosis = Narrowing of spine, (spinal canal and/or neural foramina) nerve roots get pinched.
Because Symptoms are worse with erect posture (neurogenic claudication), presents often as the “Old guy bending over cart in Cub Foods”
Causes of SS:
Facet Arthrosis
Spondylolisthesis
Sacroilliac Arthrosis
Osteophyte formation,
facet hypertrophy,
bulging disks, and
hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum.
Spondylolithesis?
Cause?
Forward slipping of one vertebrae on another
Usually caused by bilateral pars defect
Developmental/congenital
Traumatic
Degenerative
Pathologic
What is the term for a stress fracture of the pars, and what test is given for diagnosis?
**Spondylolysis
Or
Stress Fracture of the Pars
(single leg hyperextension test)
Pars = “scotty dog collar”
