Evolutionary Change
Evolutionary change - happens over time to ensure the survival of the organization. It’s typically change brought about by either outside pressure or incentives
Localised Exploitation (of individual systems) example
The use of a specific system such as a sales support package within a customer services environment
Integral / Integration with the use of IT across a business process example
Use of IT across a business process. May include a replacement of existing systems by an integrated package, for example to link distribution to customer services
Business Process Redesign
IT is used as a lever to redesign the organisation and the business processes
Business Network Redesign
Use of IT to change the relationships and information exchange across the participants in a business network of organisations (inc external customers and suppliers)
Business Scope Redefinition
The use of IT to redefine the business scope, including partnerships with other organisations
An example of this is where IT becomes integral to the product in a way that changes the whole nature of the business.
What should an organisation do when it progresses from localised change to something more complex?
The need increases for careful planning, preparation and programme management of the initiative.

Involves investigating the business context in order to make recommendations for a way forward. The deliverables are usually a business case or feasibility study. The typical outcome from this investigation will be a definition of a business change programme.
Design stage of BCL
Defining in detail the business changes to be delivered by the change project
Implementation stage of BCL
Planning, Developing or Acquiring, Deploying And Ensuring the change is accepted in the live environment.
Realisation stage of BCL
Benefits realisation is the primary concern for measuring benefits once implementation of the IT system is delivered. A post-implementation review will help to ensure that the IT system is working as required.
What should be ongoing throughout the BCL?
Ongoing evaluation of the new business systems in operation should be considered
