Burns Flashcards
What is the basic pathophysiology (problem) of Burn Injury?
Increase in Capillary Permeability
What is Stage 1 of Burns?
Dehydration phase/Emergent phase or Oliguric phase/Burn Shock phase = fluid shifting from the intravascular (Blood Vessel) space to the interstitial space
When do you expect the 1st Stage of Burns?
At the 1st 48 hours
What do you expect or the priority in Stage 1 Burns?
Fluid & Electrolyte Replacement
What is Stage 2 Burns?
Fluid Remobilization/Diuretic phase = fluid shifting from interstitial space to the intravascular space
Expect for increase renal perfusion/increase urine output (diuresis)
What is Stage 3 Burns?
Recovery Phase = everything goes back to normal
What is your #1 priority if the Burn Injury is at the Upper Extremities of the body?
AIRWAY
What would be the highest Priority for a client 72 hours after having a Second-degree Burn (Partial Thickness Injury) to 20% of his body in the LOWER abdominal area, back & both legs?
Pain = because it is not an “immediate” need anymore & there is still presence of nerve (not burned)
