Outer layer that maintains water loss
Dermis
Thicker under layer where vascular supply and lymph supply are
Helps regulate temp and BP
Bottom layer of dermis
Macrophage T cells and B cells removal of debris
Infection control
Thermal burn
Most common type of burn
Most common 2-4 yr olds
Steams scalds house fires grilling fireworks or cooking
Chemical burns
Alkali most severe
Never pick the type of treatment u just never know
Large flush with water remove clothing don’t peel off jewelry will be melted to the skin
Electrical burns
Make sure to look for exit wound
Aggressive fluid resuscitation
May not look bad but internal damage
Criteria for burn center transfer
Inhalation burns Circumferential limb burns Partial thickness burns Facial burns Perineal burns Greater than 10% burns
Inhalation injuries
Most common cause of death
100% oxygen gets rid of co in an hr takes 4-6 hrs to get rid of co in body
Singed nasal hairs car or house fires and facial burns
1st degree or superficial burn
Involves only first 2-3 layers of the epidermis
Erythema and mild discomfort
Pain resolves in 48-72 hrs
Don’t need medical intervention
