Why did burnings occur?
A
- Mary believed burning people was the work of God and justice
- Mary wanted to rid England of Protestantism and bad influences on religion
- Obviously, there was opposition as the public disagreed with it.

222 men and 51 women

What happened as a result of the burnings?
A
- Some converted to Protestantism after seeing dedication of those who were burned (seen as martyrs)
- Most opposition took place in south-east because there was a higher concentration of Protestants.
