Burn Fat Build Muscle Flashcards
What’s thermogenesis?
Thermogenesis is the process of heat production in organisms. It occurs in all warm-blooded animals.
All metabolic processes produce heat as a thermodynamic inefficiency or byproduct.
In general, however, thermogenesis refers to the process of heat generation, in relation to metabolism and the heat expended in direct response to the food you eat.
The heat your body burns is measured in calories. The greater the thermogenic effect of your body, the high number of calories you’ll expend.
–
Note: and also in a few species of thermogenic plants such as the Eastern skunk cabbage, the Voodoo lily, and the giant water lilies of the genus Victoria.
In general, there are three different classifications of thermogenesis, which are?
- Diet Induced Thermogenesis (DIT)
- Exercise Associated Thermogenesis (EAT)
- Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) —not including sleeping, eating, or exercise
What does TEF stand for and what is it?
The thermic effect of food (TEF) is the amount of energy it takes for your body to digest, absorb, and metabolise the food you eat.

What is Metabolism?
Metabolism (pronounced: meh-TAB-uh-liz-um) isthe chemical reactions in the body’s cells that change food into energy. Our bodies need this energy to do everything from moving to thinking to growing. Specific proteins in the body control the chemical reactions of metabolism.
