What is the yellow flame also called?
The safety flame.

The top of the vibrant blue cone on the inside of the outer light blue flame.
What is a tripod?
A tripod sits over the top of the bunsen burner, helping to even distribute heat to the substance being heated.
What does the collar control?
The collar controls the amount of air that enters the burner and controls the heat and colour of the flame.
What flame appears when the air hole is closed?
A yellow flame called a safety flame appears. This flame is not as hot.
What flame appears when the air hole is open?
A hot blue flame. This flame is the flame used to heat substances. This flame is also called a safety flame, or a dirty flame, because it leaves a layer of black carbon soot on anything that is heated on it.
What flame is more dangerous?
The yellow flame is easy to see and relatively cool. The blue flame is much hotter and almost invisible. This makes it much more dangerous.
