Centre of mass
Thé centre of mass is the point through which any externally applied force produces straight line motion but no rotation
Centre of gravity
Imaginary point where the entire weight of an object appears to act
Moment
Force x perpendicular distance from the line of action of the force to the axis or point of rotation
Equilibrium
A body is in equilibrium when the net force and net moment acting on it are zero
The principle of moments
For a body in rotational equilibrium the sum of the anti-clockwise moments is equal to the sum of clockwise moments
Torque of a couple
One of the forces x perpendicular distance between them
Couple
A pair of equal and parallel, but opposite forces acting at points separated by a distance, which only cause rotation
