Bulletins Flashcards
Nuisance tail strike (ELA-9R1)
If after takeoff- consider valid
If later on flight- consider nuisance and don’t do ECL.
If not sure- consider valid
Anti ice TAT anomaly on Manual mode
Automatic mode- air & god- no action required.
Manual initial climb- 10c or less- ON
15c & visible moisture- ON
Takeoff- may be delayed to 1500 but not after 2500
Inflight-
15c or less- Engine and wing anti Ice ON
10-15- disregard ANTI ICE eicas & ECL.
Blank cabin temp due Lav/Galley vent fan off on the ground (ELA-12R1)
Happens if synopsis display is blank
No action required.
EICAS msg GND PROX SYS (ELA-12R1)
When faster than 250 k, selecting FLAP OVRD or GEAR OVRD may cause the EICAS Advisory GND PROX SYS to show. No action is needed.
MCP change without flight crew action
MCP altitude change and AUTOPILOT message shows.
Verify last clear altitude, set MCP, ensure correct pitch mode is selected
Avoid abrupt flight control input due sudden drop in IAS.
When encountering sudden unrealistic drop in airspeed- do the checklist in the bulletin:
Avoid large control column inputs
Manuel- disconnect ap first
EICAS msgs valid.
VNAV PATH Not Available On Final Approach
When planning to fly an instrument approach using VNAV and the crew sees that the waypoints for the approach have sequenced past the missed approach waypoint before actually flying the approach, the crew should reload the approach and enter a cruise altitude on the VNAV cruise page. Before the airplane sequences the final approach fix, enter a cruise altitude greater than the highest altitude constraint in the flight plan
FMC Required Time of Arrival (RTA) anomalies
Times errors messages, crew awareness required
Automatic LNAV Activation during Departure
an approach is loaded before departure, be alert for unexpected or unwanted autopilot modes and flight director indications if a TO/GA switch is pushed after takeoff.
To prevent unwanted automatic LNAV activation on departure, do not load an instrument approach until after the departure phase of flight.
FMC Reset Anomaly - Procedure Turn
Flight crews should not load an approach transition that contains a procedure turn when the procedure turn will be placed on or after the 28th leg of the flight plan.
GLIDESLOPE Alert During Approach
During approach, make sure the correct altimeter setting is set on each altimeter. At higher temperatures (approximately 10°C or more above ISA), the FMCgenerated IAN glide path can be higher than the guidance provided by the runway VGSI.
At or below applicable weather minima, when suitable visual references are established, transition to use of the VGSI path for the approach.
If a GLIDESLOPE alert occurs in VMC at low altitude, after confirming the aircraft is on a safe VGSI path, the crew can do one or more of these steps:
- silence the GLIDESLOPE aural and continue on the VGSI path
- re-establish the FMC-based barometric IAN glide path and transition to a visual approach and landing in the touchdown zone
- discontinue the approach.
Premature Climb Thrust Reduction
To avoid premature climb thrust reduction, when the takeoff flap setting is greater than FLAPS 5, set the thrust reduction (THR REDUCTION) point based on a height, not a flap setting.
Engine fire switch fails locked or unlocked
Engine Fire Switch Fails Locked:
If an engine fire switch fails locked, the engine fire switch stays locked if there is an engine fire warning. The engine fire switch cannot be pulled even if the override switch is pushed. Engine fire extinguisher bottles cannot be discharged.
Do the appropriate non-normal checklist.
Setting the fuel control switch to CUTOFF shuts down the engine and closes the fuel spar valve.
The affected side VFSG goes offline when engine speed decreases below idle.
Do this additional step:
Set the hydraulic ENG PRIMARY pump switch for the affected side to off.
Land as soon as possible if an actual engine fire exists, or is suspected.
Engine Fire Switch Fails Unlocked:
Be aware the engine fire switch can fail in the unlocked condition. The engine fire switch is not protected from being pulled inadvertently. The engine fire bottles can be discharged.
Nose gear isolation valve (NGIV) fails closed
During approach, if the SLATS PRIMARY FAIL message shows, when the slats are in the commanded position, move the flap lever to 5. If the FLAPS PRIMARY FAIL message shows, the following messages can also show: GEAR DISAGREE and NOSE WHEEL STEERING. Do the checklists for all messages that show. Plan additional time for flap and slat operation in secondary mode. Use the Non-Normal Configuration Landing Distance table for FLAPS PRIMARY FAIL. Plan additional time for alternate gear extension. Advise ATC that steering is inoperative and the airplane needs to be towed from the landing runway.
Flaps & slats failure after flight in icing
After landing in icing conditions, 2 options:
- Not retract flaps & slats and log in ATL.
- Retract normally and log in ATL.
