Built Drinks: Highballs Flashcards
what are the 3 main things to know about highball drinks?
- core components - base spirit, mixer (typically start with strongest ABV first)
- standard glassware - highball or collins glass
- served - with ice
when do you stir a highball and when would you not?
- when using fresh citrus juice, a quick stir will help distribute the juice more for a balanced drink
- desired appearance - stirring may mess up the desired look
- high traffic venue - might be better to just pour and serve instead of taking the second or two to stir a drink
- muddling - it may make sense to not stir a drink if it’s muddled because then the muddled ingredients might disperse throughout the drink which might not be ideal
- typically don’t need to stir if it’s carbonated
