Build ups and foundations Flashcards
What determines a liner?
-less than .5 mm of material placed in a cavity preparation
Calcium hydroxide is a liner and it has a pH of about 11, what does that cause?
- It makes it bacteriostatic
- Stimulates the pulp to make secondary dentin
- pulpal irritant
- Extracts Growth factors from the dentin matrix
T/F Glass ionomers should be used as pulp capping agents.
False
-Should not
Are resins recommended for direct pulp capping?
-No
What are some important properties of resin liners?
- High compressive strength
- High tensile strength
- Low solubility
How much of the tooth has to be missing in a vital tooth to do build ups?
Over 1/2 of coronal tooth structure
What is the ideal post length?
2/3 to 3/4 of root length
Where do tapered posts produce the greatest stress at?
-The coronal shoulder
What might be the best overall post shape?
-Parallel post with a tapered apical end
Where is the best place to place pins?
-Line angles approximately .5 to 1 mm inside DEJ
How should a pin be placed with respect to the tooth?
-Parallel outer surface of root
Should glass ionomers be used as pulp capping agents?
-No
How many mm of gutta-percha must remain at apex when doing a post?
4-5 mm
What type of cement should you not use for posts?
-Resin-reinforced glass ionomer cements because of post set expansion
How do you get cement into the canal?
- Lentulo spiral (can’t use on relyX unicem or fujicem)
- wipe the post through the cement then insert into the canal ( Do this several times)
- Needle tube
