the Buddah is Siddhartha and was born in 563bce
What were the 4 sights? What did they teach the Buddah?
1: a broken man with a cane teaching him about old age
2: a sick man laying down teaching him about disease
3: a corpse ready to be cremated teaching him about death
4: he saw a Hindu monk
Who is the enlightened one? What did he do after his enlightenment?
The buddah was the enlightened one and decided to stay to teach us how to get to norvanna (buddist heaven)
what is the noble eightfold path?
1: right view: we need a blueprint to guide us in life
2: right thought: the mind must be freed from desire, illwill and cruelty
3: right speach: using kind speach we will earn respect
4: right conduct: accomplish the 5 precepts
5: right livelihood: earn a living through occupations that do not cause harm to living things
6: right effort: conquer all evil thoughts to have good thoughts
7: right mindfulness: a person recognizes what is important
8: right concentration: focus the mind on one object at a time to lead the mind to true peace and tranquillity
what are the 5 precepts?
1: abstain from killing or harming living beings
2: abstain from stealing
3: abstain from improper sexual contact
4: abstain from false speach (lies, gossip and rumors)
6: abstain from taking alcohol and harmful drugs
What is the middle path?
The buddist belief that you should live a life of moderation
what is Songkran?
Songkran is the buddist new year occuring over 3 days in april
What is besak or Buddha day
Equivalent to the festive of lights celebrating the birth of the Buddah
What is the ploughing festivle
Celebrates the buddahs first moment of enlightenment
