What are the parameters of collection and storage of budsticks?

A

Budsticks should be collected early in the day with the top of the stem and all leaves removed

Stems are bundled in groups, wrapped, sealed, and stored at about -2C

What is t-budding?

A

Most common type of budding used for rootstocks that are from 1/4” to 1” in diameter

Can only happen when the bark is slipping

What is inverted T-budding?

A

Used in locations that have significant rainfall during the budding season as it prevents water from going into the cut and slowing down the healing process

A

Used for thick barked plants where the bark must be slipping

A

Usually done when the rootstock is actively growing and when the bark is not slipping

Deeper cuts than in patch budding with the vascular cambiums lining up

A

Bud with leaflets are cut from the budwood with the rootstock flexed and the bud inserted into the cut

The Leaf is tied to the rootstock and plastic film is used to cover the bud union and leaf and tied

A
