What does Islam teach about same sex relationships and unions?
> Islam teaching says that same sex relationships are wrong and forbidden by God
the Qur’an says that same sex relationships are wrong
the creation of children is very important in sexual relations so this rules out same sex relationships
no same sex unions in Islam
What is the Buddhist teaching on sex?
> teach the Eight Fold Path and Buddhists would have the right attitude and mindfulness towards sex
any sexual activity that produces negative karma must be avoided
What does Buddhism teach about adultery?
> involves being unfaithful
Buddhists live according to the Five Precepts and two of the rules forbid lying and impurity or harmful sexual activities
Describe a Buddhist wedding ceremony
> no precise ceremony for marrying people in Buddhism
follow local customs
EG British Buddhists will get married in a registry office and then go to a Buddhist Temple or Monastery
in Thailand the wedding takes place at the bride’s house and a senior relative will perform the ceremony and Monks will be invited to recite prayers
during the ceremony the couple will exchange rings and make their vows to each other
as a symbol of their union the person performing the ceremony will wrap a silk scarf around the couple’s hands to show they are joined as husband and wife
sometimes the couple’s thumbs are joined together with a golden silk coloured thread and they stand on a ‘purowa’ (special platform) decorated with white flowers
