Ahimsa
The doctrine of non-violence towards all living beings
Annica
Impermanence; the idea that the world is in constant flux
Bodhisattva
compassionate being who enlightens himself or herself and helps other to be enlighten
Dana
A ceremony that takes place at the temple or in a private home, which involves the donation of food, robes, and medicine, and others necessities to do sangha
Dukkha
Dissatisfaction, the idea that human suffering is inevitable
Five precepts
Rules that buddhits follow, they include obtaining from harming living being, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and consuming drugs/alcohol
four sights
The sights that led to the buddhas departure from his palace to helo human kind, a sick man, a corpse, and old man, and a begging monk
Mantras
Symbolic phrases that are chanted by the buddha; the path between extremes
noble eightfold path
The last four noble truths. this path leads to the end suffering
middle way
path in life prescribed by the buddha, the oath between extremes
samsara
Endless cycle of uncontrolled rebirths
ascetic
one who practices very strict devotions using severe self-denial

a method of calming and training the mind through concentration
nirvana
an everlasting state of great joy and peace resulting from the end of desire and suffering
sutras
criptures establishing the teachings of buddhism. they are represented as the discourses or sermons of the buddha
