Theravada followed all of the Buddha’s teachings exactly. Mahayana believed other people could interpret the teachings to help reach nirvana.

Four Noble Truths
- Suffering part of human life. Can’t escape sorrow. 2. Suffering comes from desires. People cause own misery. 3. People can overcome desires to reach nirvana. 4. Follow the Eight Fold Path that leads to wisdom

Asoka was a powerful king in India who spread Buddhism when he changed to one
What did Asoka do?
Asoka built Buddha temples and schools which helped spread Buddhism
