- both are popular in Asia
- both believe in reincarnation (samsara)
- both believe that meditation is important.
Differences
- Dharma means ethical duty in hinduism, it means teachings of the Buddha in buddhism
- hinduism has an eternal self, atman; buddhism has no eternal self, nanatman
- the goal of buddhism is to reach nirvana, the goal of hinduism is to be absorbed in brahman
