What is the middle way?

What is a Boddhisatva?
A compassionate being who enlightens himself/herself and helps others to be enlightened.
What is Nirvana?
An everlasting state of great joy and peace resulting from the end of desire and suffering.
What is a Mantra?
Symbolic phrases that are chanted.
What is Samsara?
The endless cycle of uncontrolled rebirths.
What is Puja?
Offerings to holy beings.
What is Karma?
“Action”, or the law of cause and effect; the totality of one’s thoughts and actions, which determines one’s fate in the next life.
What is Dana?
A ceremony that takes place at the temple or in a private home, which involves the donation of food, supplies, medicines, and other necessities to the sangh. Those who participate in this ritual gain merit.
How are the Five Precepts similar to the Ten Commandments?
Both are sets of rules to be followed and revolve around abstaining or not inflicting harm onto yourself or others.
What is the Noble Eightfold Path?
The last of the 4 noble truths, which is the path leading to the end of suffering.
What are the 3 Characteristics of Existence?
- Anicca - impermanence, the idea that the world is in constant flux.
- Dukkha - dissatisfaction, the idea that all humans and animals experience suffering.
- Anatta - no self, the inability to point to any one thing in ourselves that we can say is self.
What are the 3 refuges in Buddhism?
The Buddha (the guide), The Dharma (the path), The Sangha (companions and teachers)
What is the role of the Buddha?
The Buddha serves as the guide for followers.
What does the Dharma represent?
The Dharma represents the path and teachings.
What is the Sangha?
The Sangha consists of companions and teachers.
