What are the three marks of existence?
- Anicca (impermanence)
- Anatta (no soul)
- Dumkha (suffering)
What is anicca?
Impermanence, for example, people get old - link back to the 3 sights
What is anatta?
No soul, for example, people change over time nobody remains the same all their life - link back to the king’s chariot
What is Dukkha?
Suffering, for example, illness, death and not getting what we want - the 3 sights showed siddhartha suffering was everywhere
How are Anicca and Anatta linked?
Everything changes (anicca) meaning nothing within me can remain the same (anatta)
How are Anicca and Dukkha linked?
The aging process (Anicca) causes suffering
The thought of our own impermanence (Anicca) generally causes suffering (Dukkha)
How are Anatta and Dukkha linked?
We get emotionally attached to people we like and love and, as a result, get upset when they change.
How is anicca performed in practice?
Sand mandalas as they require a lot of dedication and time to create a beautiful piece of work and are then destroyed.
What are the four nobles truths?
- Dukkha - suffering
- Samudaya - suffering caused by desire (Tanha)
- Nirodha - to stop suffering, you must stop desire. Once done, you will reach nibanna
- Magga - The Middle Way
What is Samudaya
Desire or craving (tanha) - desire dosent cease and is pointless. We always want more - desire can happen in 3 ways, link to 3 root poisons
What is Niroda?
To stop suffering we must stop desire, once done we will reach enlightenment. Nibana is a state of transcendene above desire.
What is magga?
Magga is the middle way or The Noble Eightfold Path. This a step by step guide on how Buddhists should live their life. The middle wag says you should avoid the two extremes - link to sidharthas life as a prince and holy man in the forest.

-right mindfulness

What are the 5 precepts?
- Avoid harming other living beings
- Avoid taking what is not given
- Avoid incorrect speech
- Avoid sexual misconduct
- Avoid drink and drugs that harm the mind
What does kamma mean?
‘Doing’ or ‘action’. All actions will be repaid either in this life or the next.
