First noble truth
Dukkha - the existence of suffering
Second noble truth
Samudaya - The cause of suffering is tanha (craving)
Third noble truth
Nirodha - To stop suffering, you have to stop craving
Fourth noble truth
Magga - To stop craving, follow the eightfold path
First moral precept
Avoid harm to humans and animals
Second moral precept
Avoid taking things which are not freely given (avoid stealing). Applies to ideas and credit for good actions as well as material things
Third moral precept
Avoid sexual misconduct (sex should only happen in a committed relationship, otherwise it may cause you to treat others unkindly)
Fourth moral precept
Avoid speaking falsely (don’t lie, gossip or deliberately hurt with words. Listen to others and avoid talking too much or too loudly)
Fifth moral precept
Avoid intoxicants (drugs only for medical purposes, recreational drugs are unskillful)
