What is the history of Siddhartha Gautama?
- Born a prince, has sheltered life
- Learns of suffering, wants to end it
- Becomes an ascetic (someone who gives up everything, including food and water)
- Being an ascetic doesn’t work
- Meditates, decided that should live “Middle Path”– not too much, not too little 6.Reaches enlightenment and becomes the Buddha!
What are the 4 noble truths?
- Suffering exists
- Suffering comes from desire
- Give up craving to end suffering
- Way to do this through 8 fold path
What is the 8 fold path?
1.Way to end suffering, all start with word “Right”- ex. Action,
What is Nirvana?
A state of true happiness and peace, ultimate goal for Buddhists
What is mediation?
A way to focus mind and body
What is Vesak?
Celebrates Buddha’s birthday, and for some people, when he reached enlightenment
What is Bodh Gaya?
- Town in India
