BTEC Sport Unit 1: Fitness for Sport and Exercise - Components of Fitness Flashcards
‘the ability of the cardiorespiratory system to work efficiently, supplying nutrients and oxygen to working muscles during sustained physical activity’
Aerobic endurance
‘the ability of the muscular system to work efficiently, in which a muscle can repeatedly contract over a period of time against a light to moderate fixed-resistance load’
Muscular endurance
‘the ability to move all joints fluidly through their complete range of movement’
Flexibility
‘distance divided by the time taken, measured in metres per second (m/s)’
Speed
‘the maximum force that a muscle or muscle group can produce. This is measured in kilograms (kg) or Newtons (N)’
Muscular strength
‘the relative ratio of fat mass to fat-free mass (vital organs, muscle, bone) in the body’
Body composition
‘the ability to move quickly and precisely or change direction without losing balance or time’
Agility
‘the ability to maintain your centre of mass over a base of support’
Balance
Two types of balance
Static and dynamic
Three basic types of speed
acceleration speed - sprints up to 30m
pure speed - sprints up to 60m
speed endurance - sprints with a short recovery in between
What are acceleration speed sprints?
Sprints up to 30m
What are pure speed sprints?
Sprints up to 60m
What are speed endurance sprints?
Sprints with a short recovery in between
‘the ability of parts of the body to work together to move smoothly and accurately’
Coordination
‘the work done in a unit of time’
Power
