Conversion disorder
Neurological symptoms such as loss of sensory/motor function or seizures, inconsistent with neurological disease. Often following acute stressor. Patient is aware but not worried.
Body dysmorphic disorder
Pts preoccupied with perceived defect in appearance that is not observable or slight to others. Pts perform repetitive behaviors, stress.
Delusional disorder
Fixed, persistent, untrue belief lasting for more than a month. Function not impaired
Illness anxiety disorder
Preoccupation with and fear of having a serious illness despite previous evaluation
Causes of erectile dysfunction
Psychogenic stressors, performance anxiety, depression, meds (SSRIs), vascular or neurologic impairment, trauma
Anorexia nervosa
Eating disorder. Body weight 15% below normal and refusal to maintain at normal, amenorrhea for 3 months, distortion of body image, fear of gaining weight or becoming obese.
Female athlete triad: eating disorder, amenorrhea, osteoporosis

Displacement: transferring avoided ideas and feelings to some neutral person or object.
Defense mechanism: person is angry at another person, directs anger to working out
Sublimation. Mature defense mechanism, redirecting unacceptable wishes to acceptable targets that do not conflict with value system.
Defense mechanism. Man with homosexual desires calling everyone gay
Projection. Immature. Attributing an unacceptable internal impulse to an external source.
Dysthymic disorder
Chronic, low-intensity mood disorder. Depressed mood most days for at least 2 years. 2 of following: appetite prolems, insomnia/hypersomnia, low energy, low self esteem, poor concentration, hopelessness. Responds well to anti-depressents
Enlarged and firm parotid glands, eroded enamel of teeth
Suggests vomiting. Think self-induced vomiting, eating disorders
Capitation payment system
Physicians are paid a fixed amount per enrollee. Gives physicians incentives to provide more preventative care and health counseling.
