bully pulpit
a public office or position of authority that provides its occupant with an outstanding opportunity to speak out on any issue.
S:He could use this as a bully pulpit.
cabinet
The secretaries, or chief administrators, of the major departments of the federal government. Cabinet secretaries are appointed by the president and approved by the Senate.
S: He is apart of the president’s cabinet.
executive agreements
An agreement between the president and another country, which has the force of a treaty but does not require the Senates “advice and consent.”
S: An executive agreement is similar to a treaty.
executive office of the president (EOP)
an organization established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to assist the president in carrying out major duties
S: How was the EOP formed?
Executive order
like a law, but doesn’t require Congressional approval.
S: Executive order is similar to a law.
executive privilege
A claim that confidential communications between a president and close advisers should not be revealed without the consent of the president.
S: Presidents maintain executive privilege over their conversations.
first lady
The wife of the president of the US or other head of state.
S: Michelle Obama was a first lady.
inherent powers
Powers claimed by a president that are not expressed in the constitution but are inferred from it.
S: Inherent powers do not need to be in the constitution to be acceptable.
league of nations
An international organization established after World War I under the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles.
S: League of nations brought international help on health, labor problems, and refugee affairs.
office of management and budget (OMB)
Assists the president in preparing the annual budget, clearing and coordinating departmental agency budgets, and supervising the administration of the federal budget
S: OBM is a division of the Executive Office of the President.
pardon
When the president forgives a single person’s crime/penalty
S: A pardon is similar to a forgiveness.
president
the elected head of a republican state.
S: Barack Obama is our former president.
presidential succession act
he United States presidential line of succession is the order in which officials of the United States federal government discharge the powers and duties of the office of President of the United States if the incumbent president becomes incapacitated, dies, resigns, or is removed from office.
S: Presidential succession acts are used during impeachment.
signing statements
A signing statement is a written pronouncement issued by the President of the United States upon the signing of a bill into law.
S: Signing statements are usually printed along with the bill in United States Code Congressional and Administrative News
twenty-fifth amendment
he 25th Amendment, proposed by Congress and ratified by the states in the aftermath of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, provides the procedures for replacing the president or vice president in the event of death, removal, resignation, or incapacitation.
S: The twenty fifth amendment helps line up succession of the president
twenty-second amendment
an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1951, limiting presidential terms to two for any one person, or to one elected term if the person has completed more than two years of another’s term.

u.s v Nixon (1974)
a unanimous decision against President Richard Nixon, ordering him to deliver tape recordings and other subpoenaed materials to a federal district court.
S: United States v. Nixon, was a landmark United States Supreme Court case.
veto
a formal decision to reject the bill passed by Congress
S: The president vetoed that stupid bill congress tried to pass.
vice president
S: Joe Biden was President Obama’s vice president.
Watergate
the 1972 illegal entry into the Democratic National Committee offices by participants in President Richard Nixon’s reelection campaign
