Caused by fungus (Pseudogymnoascus destrucans) that only grows dark, cold (40-50F) humid (90%) conditions.
What does WNS target?
Disrupts bats during hibernation, causing them to use critical fat storage early and important physiological conditions (wing impairments)
What percentage of bat populations decreased in caves and mines where WNS was present?
80-98%
What bat species was the most affected by WNs
Myotis lucifugus
How do people know WNS is present
Bats found dead at entrances of hibernation locations, bats found dead/dying outside in winter
When and where was WNs detected in WI
