How to acquire British nationality by birth or adoption
s.1
Born in the UK or qualifying territory after 1983 and parent is British citizen or settled in the UK, 1(1)
Adopted by British citizen habitually resident in UK, 1(5)
How to acquire British nationality by descent
Born outside UK and qualifying territories
Parent is British national otherwise than by descent
How to acquire British nationality by registration
If while minor, parent becomes settled in UK, 1(3), or becomes member of AF, 1(3A)
Spend first ten years of life in UK, absent less than 90d per year, 1(4)
s. 3(3): may register while still a minor if:
- parent British citizen by descent. Their father or mother was a British citizen otherwise than by descent.
- parent in UK or QT for previous 3y
How to acquire British nationality by naturalisation

Requirements:
Good character
Sufficient knowledge of English, Welsh, or Gaelic
In UK for 5 years
In past 12, not subject to immigration control
“qualifying territory”
means a British overseas territory other than the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia
