What is an empire
An empire is where one country rules over another country or a group of countries.
What goods where traded in in the British empire
Fur, cotton, sugar, tobacco, rum, silk, spices, tea, indigo
Why did people say the sun is always shining on the British empire
The sun is always shing on the British empire because they owned so much land that the sun was always shining on it
What is the grand pillage
The grand pillage is where African people would catch other African people and where you take many slaves in one go
What is the lesser pillage
This is where you would chase the African person until they caught them then take them to the ship
What are black birders
They are white slave traders in the early stages who would land anywhere then pursuer the Africans
What is a slave factor
This is wher the British slave traders would make agreements with the African leaders or captured slaves to catch other slaves for goods
What are manacles
They are things that were placed around the wrists
What are barracoons
They are wooden cages on the beach to hold the slaves
What is tight pack and loose pack
Tight pack was putting the slaves tightly together on there side to fit more in but loose pack was where the slaves would lie on there back.
What was the middle passage
The middle passage was where the slaves would go from Africa to America but the conditions were terrible
What happened when the slaves reached America
They would be washed and cleaned ready for auction
What was a scramble
A scramble was where a fixed price was set for the slaves and at a signal the buyers would rush into a cage and grab which slave they would want
What was an auction
An auction was where the slave would stand in front of everybody and the buyer with the highest price won the slave
Name the jobs slaves had to do
Working on the plantations, working in the big house, and housing
