What were vice-admiralty courts why did they exist? What rules did they have?
They were courts for people who tried to smuggle when passing through the British. There were no juries (people who decided guilty or innocent after evidence is shown)
and people were guilty until proven innocent.
What were the Committees of Correspondence?
They were people who spread information everywhere in the thirteen colonies.
What was the Sugar Act and when was it passed? How did it affect merchants?
1764, tax on things with sugar in them. Merchants were losing money because merchants bought sugar with tax, and tried to sell them with tax which no one would buy.
What was the Stamp Act and when was it passed?
tax on all kinds of paper, March 22, 1765
What was the Townshend Act and when was it passed?
tax on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea, June 29, 1767
What was a rit of assistance?
a warrant to come into your house to search for smuggled goods
What was the Declaratory Act and when was it passed.
all laws passed in England were the only laws you had to follow, 1766
What was the Quartering Act and when was it passed?
colonists had to allow British troops to stay in their houses and provide the resources, March 24, 1765
What were the Intolerable Acts and when were they established?
1774
