BRIEFING Flashcards

Q

GO-AROUND BRIEFING

A

I will call “GO AROUND, FLAPS”, apply TOGA thrust and rotate to go-around attitude.

I will retract the flaps one step. When established in a definite climb I will call “POSITIVE RATE”.

I will call “GEAR UP” and engage autopilot if manually flying.

I will select the gear up.

When above 400 ft, minimum Vapp, I will select HEADING PULL or HEADING PUSH as required.

At Thrust Reduction Altitude, I will select Climb Thrust, monitor Target Speed increases to Green Dot and call for Flap and Slat retraction on schedule.

I will make the flap selections as requested, then disarm the spoilers.

REJECTED TAKEOFF

A

In the event of an abnormality prior to V1, I will call “CONTINUE” or “REJECT”.

If the decision is to reject I will immediately:
– Select Thrust Levers to idle.
– Observe or apply MAX braking.
– Select maximum reverse thrust.

I will monitor brake response, call “REVERSE GREEN” or “NO REVERSE NUMBER 1 or 2 ”.

I will call “70” and advise ATC.

I will maintain maximum reverse and maximum braking until stopped, ensure forward idle thrust, set the parking brake if required, and call “ECAM ACTIONS”.

I will assess the situation.

If an immediate evacuation is not required, I will make a PA: “REMAIN SEATED, REMAIN SEATED”.

If contact with the IN-CHARGE FLIGHT ATTENDANT is required I will PA: “IN-CHARGE FLIGHT ATTENDANT CALL (OR REPORT TO) THE FLIGHT DECK”.

If an evacuation is required, I will call: “STOP ECAM”, “CHECKLIST - PASSENGER EVACUATION”

I will read the appropriate checklist.

ENGINE FIRE/FAIL AFTER V1

A

In the event of an engine fire or failure after V1, I will continue the takeoff and rotate normally at VR to 12 1/2 °. When airborne, follow SRS commands.

I will call “ENGINE FIRE” or “POWER LOSS” and cancel the Master Warning. When established in a definite climb I will call “POSITIVE RATE”.

I will call “GEAR UP”.

I will select the gear up.

I will trim the aircraft and engage the autopilot above 100 ft.

When stabilized in a climb above 400 ft, minimum of V2, I will select HEADING PULL (if required) and call “ECAM ACTIONS”.

I will accomplish initial ECAM actions and advise “ENGINE SECURED” (1)

I will call “STOP ECAM”.

At or above engine out acceleration altitude, I will accelerate in level flight and call for Flap and Slat retraction on schedule.

When the speed trend arrow reaches green dot speed I will select ALTITUDE PULL, MAXIMUM CONTINUOUS THRUST and call “CONTINUE ECAM.”

I will disarm the spoilers and continue ECAM.

EMERGENCY DESCENT

A

I will assume control with Autopilot ON and call “RAPID DEPRESSURIZATION DRILL”

I will don mask and call “CAPTAIN ON OXYGEN”

I will don mask and call “FIRST OFFICER ON OXYGEN”

I will select SEAT BELTS switch ON and call “ECAM ACTIONS”

I will accomplish ECAM actions.

I will advise ATC.

If an Explosive Decompression, I will call “EMERGENCY DESCENT” otherwise,

I will make a PA: “ATTENTION, FLIGHT ATTENDANTS SECURE THE CABIN, PASSENGERS TAKE YOUR SEATS”

I will assess pressurization and call “CABIN OK” or “CABIN UNCONTROLLABLE”.

If cabin uncontrollable, I will call “EMERGENCY DESCENT”

I will:
– SET ALT SEL to appropriate altitude and PULL (set lowest safe altitude or 10 000 ft whichever is higher)
– Pull HDG SEL (turn if required)
– Pull SPD SEL (ensure SPD mode selected)
– Ensure IDLE thrust.
– Extend speed brakes to FULL.

I will complete the ECAM silently, and advise of any omitted items or pertinent ECAM messages.

I will confirm ATC has been notified and set transponder to 7700.

If Cabin Altitude exceeds 14 000 ft, I will press the MASK MANUAL ON pushbutton for more than 2 s, and make a PA “ATTENTION, PUT ON YOUR OXYGEN MASKS IMMEDIATELY”.

APPROACH BRIEFING

A

AC TECH STATUS

ARRIVAL BRIEFING
This will be the RAGID TWO ARRIVAL, RWY 05, Toronto. Chart 10- 2E3, route and constraints as published.

APPROACH BRIEFING
Followed by the ILS RWY 05, Toronto, Chart 11-1, Localizer ITX 109.7. Final approach course 057, KERPU 2030, DA 764 on the barometric altimeter. Missed approach as published or per ATC instructions, missed approach altitude is 3000 feet. Highest sector altitude is 3100 off of the YYZ VOR. TPL is 3000 feet.

CAT II / III

FOM BRIEFING
GO-AROUND BRIEFING

COLD WX CORRECTION
Temperature is (above/below) zero. IAF, FAF/FDP, FPA, DA/MDA+50, MA corrected.

AUTOMATION
The approach will be flown with:

  • ILS Guidance (ILS), when cleared for the approach I will select the APPR button and arm the second AP. A/THR will be used to touchdown and AP until decision ALT. Planning a flaps FULL landing with AUTOBRAKE MED. I will use IDLE REV initially, and adjust as required to exit at H3. Prior to exit I will transfer control.
  • FINAL APP Guidance (RNP/VOR), when cleared for the approach and the TO waypoint is the Final Descent Point, I will select the APPR button and ensure the blue arrow is displayed prior to the FDP. Below minima, if guidance is NOT satisfactory, I will switch of the FD. A/THR will be used to touchdown and AP until decision ALT. Planning a flaps FULL landing with AUTOBRAKE MED. I will use IDLE REV initially, and adjust as required to exit at H3. Prior to exit I will transfer control.
  • Review the QRHN FINAL APP Guidance “Management of Degraded Navigation”
  • FPA Guidance (LOC), when cleared for the approach I will select the LOC button and ensure GPS PRIMARY is available or use DME information from YTP, hard tuned and identified. Established on the LOC, I will select TRK/FPA and set the next lower altitude and step down until reaching FDP altitude. When ALT is annunciated, I will set the MA ALT. I will be fully configured 1NM prior to FDP, then I will preselect the FPA (-3.0) and select FPA PULL 0.3NM. At minima I will switch of the FD.

WX - FUEL
Alternate WX is verified and we are projected to have 1.0 EXTRA at destination, leaving us enough/not enough (0.8) fuel for a second approach.
