Q

Declarer

A

The player who, for his side, first bid the suit (or notrump) of the contract becomes the declarer. For example, if you bid 3NT (which becomes the contract) and partner previously bid 1NT, then partner will be the declarer. The partner of the declarer becomes the dummy. The two remaining players will be the defenders.

38
Q

Which suit to open

A

We open our longest suit if we have one. –
• With 2 suits of Igual length open the higher ranking.
• Exception - when we have 4 hearts and 4 spades - we open 1 heart
(to give ourselves the greatest chance of finding a “fit” in one of the majors).
• Bid on quantity not on quality

39
Q

The Rule of 20

A

Take your high cards points and add the number of card in your 2 longest suits . If the total is more than 20 is worth an open bid , in hands with less than 12hcps ?

40
Q

Rebit

A

All hands that open 1 bid, need a second bid, A REBIT to describe the hand better

41
Q

Response to a 1 suit - limit bid

A

We know partner has 12-19 HCPs and at least 4 cards in the suit opened.
• If we have less than 6 pass
If we have 6-9 points bid 2 level
If we have 10-12 points bid 3 level
-
• These responses are called limit bids because they really describe and limit our hands.

42
Q

Responders’ Limit Raises with a Major Fit

A

With 4+ cards in partner’s major:
1-2 hearts.or 1-2 spades 6-9 HCPs
1-3 hearts or 1-3 spades 10-12 HCPs
1-4 hearts or 1-4 spades 13-15 HCPs
These responses are called limit bids - they describe and limit the hand.
Opener is now in charge of the auction and can pass, bid game or make an invitational bid.

43
Q

Responders’ Limit Raises with a Minor Fit

A

Same limit raises as in the majors except when we have a fit in the minors, we still check in case we also have a fit in the majors.
So, for example, 1diamonds - 2diamonds responder denies 4 hearts or 4 spades.

44
Q

Once We Have Found A Fit

A

Shortages, like a void or a singleton add to the value of our combined hands because we can trump (aka ruff) losers in that suit.
So we can give ourselves some extra points.
A void is like an Ace - so we give ourselves 4 points for a void.
A singleton is like a King - so we give ourselves 3 points for a singleton.
THESE EXTRA VALUES ARE ONLY ADDED AFTER YOU FIND A FIT!

45
Q

A bid of 3 hearts says

A

I have 5 cards in Hearts, if you have 3 more hearts raise me to . With only 2 hearts please bid 3NT
