How can the midwife support a woman to BF in the context of diabetes and/or a SGA baby in the first 48 hours
A
Diabetes can sometimes trigger a delay in lactogenesis II
Diabetes babies and SGA babies have a risk of hypoglycaemia
bo BGL before feeds, then adjust feed according to BGL
keep quite strict 3 hourly schedule
- 20-30 mins each side
- if baby isn’t feeding, hand express to get colostrum and then pump for stimulation
Consider top ups with formula
