50 years old
How many days is recommended to do breast self examination if a woman is menstruated?
5 days after the start of a menstrual cycle
What is the inframammary ridge?
Junction between the lower side of the breast and the chest wall easily confused with a mass or lump. It thicken with age.
Lymphadenopathy
Tender lymph nodes
Pain in the breast
Mastalgia
Breast lumps
Most are bening and early detection is key
Male breast
Must check. Men usually get cancer under the nipple
Gynecomastia
Swollen male breast tissue caused by a hormone imbalance
Fibroadenomas
Age 15-25. Usually puberty and young adulthood. Usually single, but may be multiple. Round, disclike, or lobular. Mobile, non-tender and require biopsy
Fibrocystic breast
Age 30-50, more cystic. Caffeine causes more discomfort. Very mobile and tender. Soft to firm
Breast cancer
Most common after 50. In collecting the hx ask if it happen before/after menopause. Invasive (spread from milk duct to other tissues) or not (still inside the ducts).
DCIS
Ductal carcinoma in situ- most common type of non-invasive breast cancer. It has not spread beyond the milk duct into any normal surrounding breast tissue.
