may mimic cancer: firm, irregular, painless, fixed
need investigating: imaging, core biopsy
duct papilloma
nipple discharge- may be blood stained
may also present with mass
discharge usually originates from single duct
management: microdochetomy
fibrocystic breast changes
lumpy breasts which may be painful
symptoms worsen prior to menstruation`
mammary duct ectasia
dilatation of large breast ducts
common around menopause and in smokers
tender lump around areola
green nipple discharge
breast abscess
more common in lactating women
red, hot tender swelling
presentation of cyclical mastalgia
varies in intensity with menstrual cycle
pain in breasts
presentation of mastitis
painful, tender, red breast
fever and general malaise
management of mastitis
first line: continue breastfeeding
analgesia and warm compress
if systemically unwell: abx- flucloxacillin
galactorrhoea
nipple discharge response to emotion events, drugs
